Forming a Toteg Tribe Style CircleAnyone who wants to can form a Toteg style circle in their area. All you need is two or three people to begin with. The ritual Ive provided at How To Conduct a Toteg Tribe Style Circle is the basic outline that I recommend. Although the words are different I carefully crafted it so that it contains all of the elements and the spirit of the intent for general services that I was initially taught by Ruth Wynn Owen of Y Plant Brn about 40 years ago. I recommend that you print it out, and then copy the PURIFICATION, INVOCATION, OFFERING, and CLOSING prayers out onto 3x5 cards so that people can read them until they get them memorized. Personally I like to get everyone involved, with a different person doing a different part each week. If the people gathered together are not familiar with trance work, then for the first couple of times Id recommend, after the OFFERING part, jointly doing something like the exercises I describe in First Steps In Powerful Meditation. Ive found it useful to turn that into a guided meditation and talk people through it. You can certainly feel free to experiment and use drumming, rattles, song, etc., as well. In following weeks you can change your focus a bit. I suggest doing meditation focusing on each one of the 7 directions as outlined at Learning from the Directions. I would do only one direction each session. If you can, create a guided meditation without suggesting that people see or experience some specific meaning. If you cant do that, then just ask them to meditate or daydream on sunrise (for example) for a few moments and to observe and remember what they see and experience. After each meditation/vision experience, you should have a period of discussion so that folks in your group can share what they experienced and compare similarities as well as differences. In this way you will build up a store or lore that is both profound and totally relevant to you and your people and location. Our objective is NOT to borrow or import lore or dogma from others, but rather to go directly to the source and listen to the spirits themselves just the way our prehistoric ancestors did. By the way, that same technique can be used for lots of different things, not just the directions. You might introduce an herb from your local surroundings, for example, and have everyone do the meditation on it, and then share what they saw and felt afterwards. Youll learn a great deal about and from the plant spirits that way. If you want to become official then it would be necessary for at least one of your circle to become a member of Toteg Tribe and ask to enter our On-the-Job Training (Circle Leader) program for Sacars. Its easy to become a member of Toteg Tribe. You can either print out and mail me the application, along with a photo (head shot) that I can use to make your ID card. Ill return the photo unharmed after scanning it. Although Ill accept almost anyone into the Circle Leader program that doesnt mean that everyone who is accepted will complete it. The fact is that most people who start the program do not complete it. Its work and responsibility. The training lasts for about a year and consists of following a pattern similar to the one Ive outlined in this post. A difference is that youll need to send me a written report of each circle conducted (preferably one a week), the number of people attending, what you did, the results, and so forth. In this way Ill be able to give feedback, guidance and direction to help you in your progress. |
